{"id":1139,"date":"2018-05-08T17:17:35","date_gmt":"2018-05-08T17:17:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/when2work.com\/help\/guide\/?page_id=1139"},"modified":"2020-09-22T22:17:58","modified_gmt":"2020-09-22T22:17:58","slug":"h-ex-shifts-assgn-cat","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/when2work.com\/help\/guide\/h-ex-shifts-assgn-cat\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8211; Set Shifts to Categories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Once you have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/when2work.com\/help\/guide\/h-sub-cat-sft-colors\/h-add-new-cat\/\">defined your Category names<\/a>, they will appear in the Category dropdown menu on your\u00a0<strong>SCHEDULES<\/strong>\u00a0pages.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/when2work.com\/help\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/09\/ssshowcat.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5183\" src=\"https:\/\/when2work.com\/help\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/09\/ssshowcat.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/when2work.com\/help\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/09\/ssshowcat.png 700w, https:\/\/when2work.com\/help\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/09\/ssshowcat-300x109.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can choose a Category when\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/when2work.com\/help\/guide\/h-sub-view-edit-sched\/h-add-shift\/\">adding new shifts<\/a>\u00a0or you can\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/when2work.com\/help\/guide\/h-sub-auto-sched-week\/h-making-sched-change\/\">click any shift to edit<\/a>\u00a0and choose a Category, or you can set multiple shifts to a Category using the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/when2work.com\/help\/guide\/h-sub-view-edit-sched\/h-shift-grid-bulk-edit\/\">Grid View<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/when2work.com\/help\/guide\/h-sub-sched-view-layouts\/h-mulit-shift-edit\/\">Multi-Shift Edit<\/a>\u00a0Schedule View.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Setting Existing Shifts to be in a Category:<\/h2>\n<p>From any Schedule View:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the Schedule View dropdown, choose\u00a0<strong>Grid View<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Choose a <strong>Day<\/strong> or the <strong>Week<\/strong> Tab to see all of the shifts you want\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sort<\/strong>\u00a0the display by any column by clicking the title &#8211; Ex. if setting night shifts, you might want to sort by Time\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Check off the shifts you want to change<\/li>\n<li>Click the &#8220;<strong>Bulk Edit<\/strong>&#8221; link below the grid<\/li>\n<li>Choose the Category<\/li>\n<li>Click the\u00a0<strong>Save<\/strong>\u00a0button<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/when2work.com\/help\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/09\/ssbulkeditcat.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5181\" src=\"https:\/\/when2work.com\/help\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/09\/ssbulkeditcat.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/when2work.com\/help\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/09\/ssbulkeditcat.png 700w, https:\/\/when2work.com\/help\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/09\/ssbulkeditcat-300x210.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>\nTo test the Category and view the shifts<\/h2>\n<p>From any Schedule View:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the Category dropdown, choose your new Category name\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>(Be sure the Positions dropdown is set to\u00a0<strong>All Positions<\/strong>)\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The Schedule View will now include only the shifts in that Category<\/li>\n<li>You can also filter on a position to see only shifts that are in both that Category and that Position<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note: Changing an existing shift to be in a Category DOES NOT change the times or any items set in the category defaults.
